Interesting Conversations
I've been fortunate to have some really interesting conversations in the past week. One with Mike Cooke, CEO of dmg World Media and Dorothy Belshaw, Executive VP at George Little Management. dmg actually completed their purchase of GLM recently, so it was kind of funny to have reached the same company through independent means.
I started speaking to Dorothy about the art of innovation. GLM does gift shows, so in first blush, I was thinking how might that be innovative? I found that GLM has consistently innovative and indeed has a process for getting impactful ad-hoc teams together to build meaningful change within their company. We spoke further about the process of innovating and we decided "Innovation is Listening(to your customers)". Indeed, you need to know the market before you can effectively launch new products to serve it well.
Sounds like a SISO column coming on....
Mike had a perspective on making sure as the buyer of a show that you focus on the fit and imagine a transition before the negotiation, instead of making both an afterthought. Makes sense to me....
We're having wierd weather in Boston at the moment, foggy and in the 70's....at least the Red Sox kept their season a little bit longer...
Keep innovating.
